Talk at Midwest PHP 2018 (English - US)

Rating: 4 of 5

With data available on the internet doubling at an amazing rate, the modern web is increasingly focused on search. There are many ways to implement search in your PHP application. Some of them are downright terrible, while others are truly amazing. This talk will introduce you to the basics of various search engines like Solr, Sphinx, and ElasticSearch. We’ll learn strengths and weaknesses of each as well as how to integrate them into your existing PHP application. Every application has differing and often very niche needs for search, so our goal is to show you what’s available and help you make an educated selection for which type of search is right for your application.

It was hard to understand his words. It wasn't the search topic I was expecting.

Talk met expectations. Presentation was clear and concise. Nicely covered various options and use cases. Would have preferred more focus on Elastic, less on proprietary options. Thanks!

Presentation was very well-made. I think it went too deep into Algolia.

Loved the high level discussion, but with enough technical detail to give context on how to leverage it quickly. Perfect format for giving me the information I need to target my investigation into a search implementation for my application.

Good topic, but a little more detailed and technical than I expected from the description . The main issue was that it was difficult to hear you due to the sound in the room echoing, and you would occasionally trail off a little volume-wise.

Good talk introducing a few different search solutions that differ based on needs or volume. I felt the code and result examples were a tad busy, making it more difficult to parse out what was happening during the talk. Perhaps fewer examples but more broken up, going more in-depth on that example would be better. Keep all the examples in the slide deck at the end for those interested, as they are helpful to review later.
