A dollar sign, while the ubiquitous symbol of the Linux command line, gets boring pretty fast. Learning how to create a more colorful or informative command line prompt is a great way to enhance productivity and make using the command line an enjoyable experience. Beyond getting the office's coolest terminal prompt, you can also use aliases and functions to add new commands in just a few lines of Bash, or extend the functionality of existing command line utilities with ease.
